New York Gay Clergy Ordered to Marry
The Episcopal Bishop of Long Island; Lawrence Provenzano has given Gay clergy in homosexual relationships nine months to either marry or stop living together.
“I need to be mindful that the church has always asked people to live in committed monogamous, faithful relationships. I won’t allow heterosexual clergy to live in a rectory or church housing without the benefit of marriage. When one puts it in that context, then you see how it all begins to make sense,” said Provenzano.
The Bishop's directive has caused some concern, but he has said that no one who ignores it will be disciplined for failing to meet the deadline. I wonder what would happen to any priest who declined entirely.
