You applied to work WHERE?!
Woah! This job-hunting lark got old a long time ago. I go on about it from time to time on here. I apply for jobs if I can match my skills and experiences to the Person Specification. I found myself applying for a job at Newcastle Cathedral and thinking "I could see myself enjoying this." So I was pleased to get short-listed.
The Dean contacted me before the interview as he was not on the interview team but clearly wanted to get an idea of the person who was going to be responsible for "visitor experience" stuff. It was a pleasant-enough Zoom meeting, but I couldn't help thinking that it was a bad look- I hate working for organisations with too many management levels. He- and the rest of the team made the point that not all workers at the Cathedral shared Christian beliefs.
I was interviewed by four people via Zoom. It went OK- I find it hard to assess these things- afterwards of course the moments fogginess during the interview cleared to give me the clarity I'd lacked at certain points, but I don't think it went badly. I was dismayed when they told me that they would inform me/us of their decision "mid week". That length of time made me wonder again about their decision processes and a small warning light flashed in my head. It is now Thursday and I have not heard from them.
It might not be too big a tragendy not to be offered the job: the job description is frankly silly; it is a classic case of an organisation trying to get as much out of individual workers as possible- the job would be done by an additional one or two people if properly resourced. We'll see.
In other news, a BEAUTIFUL house and estate near Monmouth is up for sale for £800K (though I expect it will end up being over £1m by the time it actually sells. It would reall make a perfect People Centre, it was run as some sort of outward bounds place. I'd drop everything to make that work any day!
